Bobby Shmurda Posts $2 Million Bail

Initially, Bobby Shmurda’s $2 million bail appeared to be beyond the rapper’s reach.

In court last week, his lawyer, Kenneth Montgomery, argued that the fee seemed “extremely unfair” and “excessive.”

Now, according to the New York Times, Shmurda has posted bail.

The publication found out Friday (January 31) that the Brooklyn rapper could be released as early as today (February 2).

Shmurda received help paying the costly amount from Ira Judelson, a bail bondsman that has helped rappers Ja Rule and DMX.

With assistance from Judelson, Shmurda and Montgomery prepared a bail package for the city to review. Epic Records, the label to which Shmurda is signed, was not involved.

“If the city is playing fair, there will be no need for a hearing,” Montgomery told the Times.

Shmurda has spent over six weeks in jail on charges including reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon, conspiracy to commit murder in the second degree and criminally using drug paraphernalia.

He is currently being held at the Manhattan Detention Complex, known as the Tombs.

If convicted, he will face up to 25 years in prison.
