The Story of a Wedding Day
Wedding Day
Here they stood with their eyes locked on one another; before God, family, friends, and a minister…. waiting to say “I do”. No one would’ve guessed that in the back of both of their minds, was doubt.
“What if she isn’t the right one?!” He asked himself. “What if we fail at this?”
He stood… Eyes still locked on his woman. He shook it off as the tears he didn’t want anyone to see escaped the hold he once had them under. She was beautiful. Exactly what he’d asked God for his entire life!
“Why would I question God’s will. He made her just for me. She’s beautiful,” he reminded himself.
“Do you, William, take this woman as your wife… To have and to hold, through sickness and health, for richer or poorer, TIL death do you part?”
He responded, “I do,” with no more doubt in his heart or mind. He knew this was the woman for him…
She glared into his eyes, tears filling in hers; she looked over the church to see who was present. She’d waited her whole life for her wedding day.
“Will you, Traci, take this man as your husband? Will you promise to honor, obey , love him, through sickness and health, richer and poorer, TIL death do you part?”
Silence fell over the church. She looked around again…
“What am I doing here?!” She asked herself. “Should I tell him or go through with this?”
The minister repeats himself….
“Will you, Traci, take this man as your husband? Will you promise to honor, obey , love him, through sickness and health, richer and poorer, TIL death do you part?”
She looks around again; catches the eye of the one person she was looking to for validation. Their eyes locked; smiles were exchanged. Then she knew what was necessary.
“I can’t do this!”
She had known this man all of her life. He was her first love, first sexual experience, the one that made her heart beat; they’d grown apart some time ago, but she never rid her heart of feelings for him. Here he was on her wedding day, smiling at her from afar. His smile made her heart melt.
Some months ago, they’d gotten back in touch and the feelings began to resurface. She never told her husband to be; she didn’t want to break him. Traci thought she could go through with this wedding and forget what she and her first felt. Unfortunately, for this groom left at the altar, this day would never be the same.
She left the alter fast and when she reached the back pews; she turned and murmured these two words before their dealings were finally through….
“I’m sorry.”
